What is it with employee engagement? Everyday employees walk into their workplace or your business and decide if they will give that extra discretionary effort or not. Are these people really engaged? Many recent surveys tell us they are not. If you count the number of hours an individual spends at work it is a frighteningly high number, and the average employee also costs about £1m during their career. What does a lack of engagement cost? A lot. The answers to this are not as hard as you might imagine because lots of companies are increasingly getting it right – they communicate well, they support people, they care, their managers ask the right questions and have a positive approach. It’s not what you know do but how you do it!
